Welcome to our Galway Campus
About the Campus
Established in 1972 and overlooking Galway Bay, the purpose-built campus on the Dublin Road in Galway City is the largest of GMIT’s five campuses. This campus is one of Galway City’s iconic landmarks, due to the three distinctive sail-shaped copper panels at the front of the main building. This unique design helps identify the Institute as an innovator in modern technology, and serves the practical purpose of housing the Library and IT Centre. A huge variety of courses are available at the Galway campus – everything from business and science, to engineering and tourism.
About Galway City
Galway city is home to the main GMIT Galway campus, and GMIT’s Centre for Creative Arts and Media. Nationally and internationally renowned as the friendliest city in Europe (Travel + Leisure 2015), Galway is so much more than a scenic city-by-the-sea. Galway has a spirited population of 75,000 people, with students making up at least a quarter of that. Everything from open air markets to pubs, theatres, live music events, and an eclectic bunch of personalities, keeps Galway city buzzing by day and night. And when the vibrancy of city life is all too much, why not escape for a break and head a little further west to Connemara, the most unspoiled countryside you will ever see. Or, head south to explore the Burren and Cliffs of Moher in County Clare.
